We take a drive today with Malcolm and June as competent guides. Our first stop is Mahon Falls, a very cold, windy ravine, high up with ocean views and a water fall at the end. Spectacular!
Then on to tour the coastal villages of Dungarvon, Bunmahon, Tramore, Dunmore and back home through Waterford the home of the famous Waterford crystal. These seaside towns are popular in summer and some of the beaches are beautiful although apparently treacherous currents can be dangerous for swimmers and many have lost their lives.
Malcolm and June tell us of the last time they visited one spot, a friend from Germany nearly drowned. He was taken out to sea and although a rescue boat was called, as it rounded the headland it ran out of petrol! Only in Ireland do I hear you say? Another man on the beach went to his rescue and a change of current brought them both in on dangerous rocks. He was badly cut and taken to intensive care with water in his lungs but he lived to tell the tale. Malcolm and June have not come back to this place until today, the memory still raw!
We have had a ‘grand day’!
