Memorial Day in Oaxaca

The first thing we did this morning was go for a walk to find were the the kingdom hall was. It was easy enough to find according to the directions victor left for us at our hotel.

…it was a flurry of activity, painting, cleaning and just generally sprucing up…

When we got there it was a flurry of activity, brothers and sisters were everywhere painting, cleaning and just generally sprucing up the kingdom hall.We introduced ourselves to a brother there, he told us there was going to be two memorials that night one in spanish at 6pm and the other in english at 8pm.

We head back into town toward the zocalo to spend the rest of the day in the city square watching the people go by and to study a bit of spanish, a great place to grab a bite to eat… beautiful food.

Memorial time rolled round quick, we got ready and walked (about 2Kms) to the kingdom hall in Argentine St. Ashley and i wanted to catch the spanish memorial so that we could get some practice up. Result? Didn’t understand much just a few words here and there… mainly the scripture numbers. (They speak so fast!!) .

The english memorial was great, its so much better when you understand it!! (all of it at least). The congregation is fantastic all were super nice and introduced themselves. Victor met us at the front gate, great to put a face to the directions. After the memorial we were invited by the brothers to go out for tea to a Italian restuarant for pizza. It was the best pizza i think i have ever had… but then thats a 10pm hungrey stomach talking… but seriously “bueno” none the less.

The love of the united brotherhood never seizes to amaze me, truly a blessing to have met this congregation. I hope we can spend more time there in Oaxaca.

How many did you have at each of the memorials, were they mainly indigenous people or were there a lot of blow ins like yourself? What does the Kingdom Hall look like, and do the brothers all have cars like we do? I am so enjoying travelling with you this way not half as tiring as you guys.

“Buenos dias, como esta usted?” “Bien, bien, y usted?” How many times did you hear that before and after the Spanish meeting? :-) You’re going to wish you had 10 pesos for every time you hear it by the time you leave the Spanish-speaking world! Great to follow your travels this way, mi hermano, gracias! Happy trails… J

Hmmm we didn’t get the exact figures i reckon about 150 to the spanish one and about 50 to the english one. All at the spanish meeting looked indigenous to me. The english one was mostly all blow-in’s from NY, Florida, Washington State and even hawaii… oh and australia featured strongly.
